As we head into another busy cricket season at Bowdon CC, we wanted to say a huge thank you to the small group of volunteers who already give so much of their time to the club. In particular, the committee members, captains and the parents who lead and support our junior teams – the club simply wouldn’t function without you.
Founded in 1856, Bowdon CC is one of the most historic and successful clubs in Cheshire. We have over 250 playing members, a thriving junior section and a growing dedicated girls’ cricket offer. Each season, there are over 200 cricket fixtures across all ages and senior teams.
We are very lucky to be based in such a privileged location with a beautiful ground, but it’s important to emphasise that the cricket club is entirely run by volunteers. Everything from running teams, to organising fixtures, finances, governance and safeguarding, depends on people stepping forward and getting involved.
In addition, it costs approximately £35k (not including grounds maintenance) to run the club each season. Over £3k a year is spent on cricket balls alone! Any (small) profit that is made is reinvested into the cricket section. Recent investments have included relaying the nets, live streaming camera, outfield drainage and grounds equipment.
With the season fast approaching, we’re asking the wider Bowdon CC community to consider how they might help. There are lots of ways to get involved, whatever time or practical support you can offer does help:
Every contribution, in time or financial, big or small, makes a real difference and helps ensure Bowdon CC continues to thrive for players (and spectators) of all ages.
If you’re able to help, or would like to find out more about any of the options above, please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.
Thank you for being part of the Bowdon CC community and for supporting the club as we look forward to another great season.
Bowdon CC.
